Out of Shepton Mallet

Access

There is a car park by the Shepton Mallet recreation ground (marked on the map). The path is suitable for wheelchair users, with shallow gradients and a good, wide hard surface. There is also parking at the Townsend retail park (also marked).

Collett Park to Ridge Lane

This short (little over a mile) yet spectacular section takes you from the heart of Shepton Mallet at Collett Park past Shape Mendip’s offices, Townsend retail park and Queens Road playground over a fabulous new bridge to the football ground and skate park before heading into unspoilt countryside and ending at Five Arches bridge. Along the way, the path runs past a fully restored drystone wall which is delightfully fronted by snowdrops as part of the Shepton Mallet Snowdrop Festival in February. The bridge was formally opened in November 2024, in the exact same location as the original railway bridge, on the original abutments, and is painted in a proud Shepton Town Council blue.
